About
Fiona Cooper has over 20 years’ experience as a couturier, designing and creating bespoke garments, from daytime wear to evening and wedding gowns.
Ever since Fiona lived in London 30 years ago, she had a flare for fashion, being inspired by designers then and now, as well as being influenced by her mother who owned ladies dress shops in Wakefield and Barnsley, Barbara Gibson.
After returning to Yorkshire Fiona attended a foundation course in fashion at Batley Art College. She then apprenticed herself to a couturier in Leeds, preferring to learn with a more “hands on” approach.
Fiona’s studio is based in Newmillerdam, a leafy suburb near Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Here, she has a wide range of sample day and evening wear to inspire you, to help you find your perfect dress.

The Process
The process of having your dress designed is an exciting experience.
The initial stage starts with a consultation where you and Fiona look at the style of dress you are interested in. This involves looking at suitable fabrics and choosing the material which will be flattering to the style, as well as complementary colour to your skin tone.
Fiona will then sketch your outfit for your approval.
Measurements are taken of your body and a calico toile will be fitted at the next stage. The design of the dress is then drawn onto the toile. This is where design details are discussed and the neckline is shaped.
After this fitting, your dress is cut out in your chosen fabric.
A minimum of two fittings will be required, ensuring the dress/outfit is fitted to perfection.

Fiona has now completed 3 bespoke dresses for me, my Mother of the Bride dress, a silk long evening dress and a day dress to wear over Christmas and winter. I am absolutely thrilled with all three of them. Fiona is very talented , she gives good advice on design , colours and fabrics and she can make an outfit exactly to your requirements. Fiona orders all the fabrics from London and will only use the best. My dresses far surpass anything I would be likely to find on the High St. or indeed the West End of London. Having Fiona make you a dress takes away all the stress of searching and the end product is a very reasonably priced garment of a quality, that would grace any top function. I would highly recommend Fiona.
